The Michelin Guide's review
An important pilgrimage site dedicated to St Anthony, this basilica was built between 1232 and 1300 in a style which combines Romanesque, Byzantine and Gothic features. The imposing interior houses many works of art, including the choir with 22 bas-reliefs by Donatello (1446) which adorn the high altar. The Cappello del Santo, a Renaissance masterpiece, contains the Arca di Sant'Antonio which is surrounded by magnificent 16C high reliefs. The Museo Antoniano is also worth a visit.
