Excavations have unearthed - under the Moorish and Visigothic ruins - the vestiges of a Roman city including a 1C Patrician villa with a private bath and a cellar, a funerary monument, wells, grain silos, stables, a wine press and, below, the remains of the public baths. At that time the sea came as far as here and these baths were near the port. They were used by sailors stopping over there.
