Description
Takaoka's festival of Mikurumayama (floats) (May 1) is a UNESCO intangible heritage event. This museum charts its history which stretches back to the early 17C. In the main hall, you can admire one of the seven historic floats in detail. The huge lacquered wheels adorned in gold leaf are particularly worthy of mention. Several display cases highlight the various arts and crafts used to decorate the floats (lacquer work, painting, sculpture and metalwork).
