Opened in 1993 on the site of a 1918 aviation school that later became a US Air Force base, this 44-acre museum is focused around a hangar with dioramas and cases of photos, uniforms and weapons used by US aviators during World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam and 1991's Operation Desert Storm. Featured among the artifact displays are the shirt, trousers and cup of a gunnery sergeant held as a prisoner of war at North Vietnam's "Hanoi Hilton" in 1972-73. Outside, 43 restored aircraft and fighter jets are grouped according to the conflict in which they were deployed.
