Description
The best surviving example of a quintessential Tuscan villa, the Medici Villa "Ambra" was altered in the 18C-19C (pediment and staircase). Many of the rooms were decorated in the 19C for King Vittorio Emanuele II. Note the unusual coffered ceiling in the magnificent first floor drawing room and, among the frescoes, works by Pontormo representing Pomona and Vertumnus (god of Spring). A Still-Life museum (second floor) has over 200 works from the 16C-18C, drawn from the Medici collections.
