Useful information

Located in the former depot community of Pinacate, this museum of railroad history preserves relics of the era when steam and diesel trains served as an important modes of transport. The earliest artifact among some 200 vehicles dates from the 1870s. Highlights include "Big Red Cars" from Los Angeles' Pacific Electric Railway and a 1924 Santa Fe Railway post-office car, the last rolling sorting station used by the US Postal Service. Recent acquisitions include the "Grizzly Flats Railroad," assembled during the 1950s by Disney animator Ward Kimball. Many more vehicles are currently being restored by volunteers.
