Description

Presiding in the centre of the landscape, surrounded by a few houses and a grove of cypress trees, the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo was established in 1049 by St John Gualbert, founder of the Vallumbrosan Order. One of the abbey's four monks will take you on a tour of the church. To the left of the altar are some fine frescoes painted by Alessandro Allori in the Chapel of St John Gualbert; note the colours and attention to detail in the bottom one.
