The mosaics on show in Madaba Archaeological Park have been unearthed in the course of excavations here and on nearby sites. They range in date from the 1C BC (the earliest mosaic found in Jordan) to the 8C, and study of their subject matter has identified themes dear to the local artists, such as the depiction of towns. The park is also home to the Mosaic Institute, which teaches the art of mosaics and mosaic restoration.
