Description
This beautiful hunting lodge, built by João de Mascarenhas, the first Marquess of Fronteira, in 1670, shows a strong Italian Renaissance influence, particularly in the gardens. The quality and variety of the azulejos, covering every conceivable flat surface, are outstanding: those in the Victory Room depict the War of Restoration, 17C Delft tiles adorn the dining room and, outside, the bestiary adds a humorous note.
