Built by the Knights of the Order of Christ in the late 15C, the sober façade is composed of contrasting bands of white, black and red stone. The apse, decorated with lacework balusters and twist pinnacles, is flanked by a stone crenellated steeple with a pyramidal roof tiled with azulejos. In the nave, note the remarkable artesoado ceiling (marquetry work), the chancel with fine 16C stalls, and the fine high altar reredos composed of a dozen Flemish painted panels.
