Useful information

Description

Transformed during the 19C to resemble a medieval fortress, the castle is now the setting for a superb collection of Victorian portraits belonging to the National Portrait Gallery. The Billiard Room is dedicated to the lives of men, which were divided between the sports field, race course and boxing ring; the Library spotlights eminent intellectuals, while the Drawing Room is the ladies' preserve. The gardens have been restored to their Edwardian layout.
