This Napa Valley gastropub continues to up the ambition level without sacrificing the fun. The much-praised burger remains a juicy knockout (complete with duck-fat fries!), but other dishes like grilled asparagus with a brandade fritter, poached egg, and smoked trout roe are worthy of equal attention. Housed in a cottage-like structure just off the St. Helena highway, the Goose has a dark, gentleman's club-like feel with leather chairs, tufted banquettes, and an intimate downstairs bar that serves the full menu. Drinks are a big deal here (the booze list is referred to as a "bible"), so be sure to peruse the wide selection of cocktails-or sip a local vintage.
