An authentic taste of the Holy Land in Silicon Valley, Oren's tiny space is as crowded as the Wailing Wall. At prime hours, expect to see diners spilling out onto the sidewalk and lining up for takeout at the back counter. The staff can seem overwhelmed at times, but it's an experience worth the wait, whether in Palo Alto or Mountain View. You'll understand the lines after your first bite of the incredible hummus, drizzled with olive oil, and the crisp falafel with its moist, well-seasoned interior. Tender, spice-rubbed chicken breast in a fluffy pita, topped with a refreshing Israeli salad of chopped cucumber, tomato, onion, and parsley, as well as a spoonful of green harissa, is a satisfying lunch. Wash it all down with a dark Israeli beer.
