This little enoteca has been a smash-hit since day one and spawned its own cluster of knockoffs, though none have quite the same talent for pairing tasty little bites with excellent wines by the glass. The smartly designed space offers a marble U-shaped bar that makes use of every square inch but stays comfortable, especially for solo diners. The Italian-leaning menu's small portions encourage diners to try a number of different plates. Start with gazpacho made from late-summer corn, avocado, and Jonah crab meat, or smoky tender whole grilled squid. Meatballs are a delicious surprise, seasoned with cumin and fennel, then simmered in a deep golden sauce of white wine, bay leaf, and tangy lemon with nary a tomato in sight, but plenty of bread for sopping.
