This indie hot spot with a retro-chic décor and cool staff has so many things going for it. First, there’s the team behind it, who’ve already struck gold on the city’s dining scene. Then there’s the location, inside the former Heller’s Bakery, which was an 80-year-old neighborhood institution. And finally, there’s the food. This all-day kitchen churns out tempting baked goods in the morning, quiches and sandwiches at lunch and a full dinner carte in the evening. Slather nori butter on excellent house-made country bread before diving into black pepper spaetzle studded with littleneck clams, tossed in a garlic and butter sauce. Don't skimp on dessert as it's a sacrilege in these hallowed bakery halls. Fluffy and tangy goat cheese-cheesecake is a great pick.
