From the brightly whitewashed exterior to the freshly installed porch area complete with rocking chairs, the Southern-styled redo of the old Takashi space is everything you’d expect from Chef—and South Carolina native—Charlie McKenna (also of Lillie’s Q). Despite the somewhat curious absence of antebellum style and slow drawls, this cozily arranged interior is luminous, chic, and charming. And then there’s the bar of course, which proffers a great Bourbon listing and impressive cocktails that may include a vintage Boulevardier. The glassed-in kitchen, where the team is sharply accented with indigo-hued aprons, turns out a roster of updated down-home cooking. And while the flavors are familiar, the execution here is actually quite modern-envision pan-seared catfish with succotash and foamy harissa nage.
