The industrial area west of the I-880 freeway doesn’t boast many good restaurants, but this hidden Mexican is an exception. Complete with a hip reclaimed-wood décor and local clientele of suits as well as trendy foodies, it’s definitely a cut above a taqueria in terms of quality and price, with fresher, lighter food in smaller—but by no means stingy—portions.
Lunchtime tacos feature handmade corn tortillas perhaps piled high with carnitas and salsa verde, chamoy-glazed grilled chicken or braised beef with chile arbol salsa. Dinner might bring carne asada with black beans and salsa de chile cascabel, or pork pibil panuchos with pickled onion and sikil pak. With a truly relaxed vibe and home-cooked feel to the food, it’s worth the extra effort to drop by.
