The Rynek (market square) in the centre of the Old Town is one of Warsaw's most popular spots. Lined with colourful Renaissance- and Baroque-inspired houses, whose floors are strangely piled one on top of the other, it is home to many fine restaurants and busy terraces. In the centre is a copy of the mermaid statue (Syrenka), the city's emblem. Many of the mansions have been converted into museums and are open to the public, such as Warsaw Museum and Adam-Mickiewicz Museum of Literature.
