Padua's Museo Diocesano
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Museum
The Michelin Guide's review
Housed in Palazzo Vescovile, the museum allows you to admire the Bishops' Salon, a huge, rectangular room decorated by Bartolomeo Montagna from the end of the 15C. Admire the elegant trompe-l'oeils (false marbles, perspectives). The museum, one of the largest and oldest in Italy, extends into a series of rooms in which the history of the diocese is recounted. Among the artworks, a fine 14C Madonna and Child attributed to Paolo Veneziano and the highly expressive Saint Francis of Paola by Tiepolo (18C) are particularly noteworthy.
