Broughton Castle
Michelin Guide
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This manor, surrounded by a moat, dates back to around 1300 and was enlarged in 1554 and 1599. It became the centre for parliamentary opposition to Charles I. The great hall, dining room and chapel are perfect examples of a 1300 interior. The chimney in the king's room and the ceiling of the great salon are Elizabethan successes. The 18C gothic gallery includes busts of Inigo Jones et Ben Johnson par Rysbrack.
