The Michelin Guide's review
This former island was rejoined to the land by the creation of the north-east polder but it remains a distinct community which has preserved its insular character and traditions (Calvinism, traditional costumes). Today it is a small port which is popular with tourists, yet it has preserved its picturesque appearance. Once specialising in eel fishing, Urk now boasts one of the largest fish markets in the country.
