More and more motorists are making the switch to all-electric vehicles these days, and almost all carmakers have acknowledged that gasoline and diesel engines will be phased out by 2035 or 2040 at the latest. In fact, the demand for batteries will grow exponentially in the coming years, and this is why it is essential that the future infrastructures for producing them benefit from the experience of the biggest players in the sector.

The aim of Volkswagen and Bosch is to create a European supplier of battery equipment solutions. The goal being to provide manufacturers of battery systems and cells with suitable production solutions so that large-scale production can be ensured. The aim is to mass-produce modern and durable batteries.

The objective is for this production to take place primarily in Europe. In fact, Volkswagen plans to build no less than six battery cell factories in Europe by 2030. Volkswagen has also recently committed itself to recycling strategic materials included in its lithium-ion batteries, starting with its Salzgitter plant in Germany.

All the major automotive groups are now faced with this issue and are seeking to ally themselves with various partners to keep up with the pace of production that awaits them. This is already the case for Stellantis, which is working with Total, and for Ford, which is working with South Korea’s SK Innovation.
