The e-bike that’s as speedy as a motorcycle or a car in the city

French e-bike maker Moustache is refreshing its Friday 27 FS Speed, now available in two versions, featuring one or two batteries for boosted range. With a top speed of 45 km/h, it stands out as a genuine alternative to motorcycles -- and even cars -- in urban zones. Officially classed as a moped, riders will need to make sure they have an appropriate license to use it.

The flagship model in the range is now the Moustache Friday 27 FS Speed Dual, which has two batteries for a total power of 1,125 Wh or a range of around 80 km. That’s more than sufficient for getting around town quickly and with peace of mind on a daily basis.

With a top speed of 45 km/h, this e-bike can travel as fast as — if not faster than — motorcycles or even cars in city centers. In fact, the e-bike is much more easily maneuverable in heavy traffic and jams, weaving its way where other motorized vehicles would struggle to pass.

Its “Performance Line Speed” motor has a maximum torque of 85 Nm and a top speed of 45 km/h. All the controls (power, lights, horn) are located on the handlebars. Riders can also make use of a central unit with a GPS and a color touchscreen.

Note that certain rules apply when riding this “speed bike,” starting with wearing an approved helmet and gloves. And, being assimilated to a moped, riders will also require insurance to take it out on the road.

The standard Friday 27 FS Speed is priced €6,299 (approx. US$7,500), while the Friday 27 FS Speed Dual, with its extra PowerPack (500 Wh) is priced €7,199 (approx. $8,600).
