Staten Island dwellers need not hop the ferry for a nice evening out. Instead, just pick up the phone and make a reservation at Zest. Dark wood paneling, jazzy portraits, and crisp white linens lend a supper club feel to the charming ambience of this pleasing spot. From foie gras to rack of lamb, expect French classics all the way; and do not be tempted to veer from the wonderfully traditional dishes by their less successful, more complicated choices (shrimp and crab roll?). Desserts like crêpes Suzette, with apricots poached in a fresh Grand Marnier sauce, folded into warm triangles with a quenelle of vanilla ice cream, is pure pleasure. The staff isn't speedy, but like the above-mentioned crêpe, you'll be enveloped in a warm and comfortable feeling.
