- Remarks
- With its pan-Castillian décor (a Spanish shawl for curtains, adobe walls, portraits of Flamenco dancing beauties), and sweet, helpful staff, this wildly popular spot-a stone's throw from the Staten Island ferry-is an excellent choice for big, lively groups or adventurous Manhattanites up for visiting their neighbor to the south. Settle into one of the massive, intricately carved tables, order a glass of sangria, and let the grazing begin. Start with relleno de gambas, plantain stuffed with tangy shrimp, red peppers, onions, and garlic, with a sweet, tart sauce; and then move to pollo Española —sautéed chicken breast in mushroom sauce, served with yellow rice and pigeon peas. The house-made flan, served room temperature, is a lovely finale.
