- This precious mom-and-pop eatery plumb in the heart of Redwood City fires up plates of inexpensive Turkish goodness. The simple, narrow interior is painted mauve with mounted iron sconces, framed pictures, and a lovely mural of a Mevlevi (or Sufi) dancer adorning the back wall. Warm the belly with a red lentil soup chock-full of mint, cumin, and garlic; followed by sarma beyti kebab, skewered ground beef, broiled and wrapped in Turkish flatbread, served in tomato sauce and drizzled with garlic yogurt. Carb fans will adore the sebzeli güveç (vegetable and lamb casserole coupled with rice); while the kunefe, is a fine way to end—sweet cheese baked between layers of shredded filo dough, drizzled with cherry syrup, and sprinkled with chopped pistachios.
