- Designed for the throngs of tourists, Becco may verge on brusque but is all about business. Given the bold and big-named eateries lining Restaurant Row, the competition rages on and Becco reigns supreme with one secret behind its success: Lidia Bastianich. Amid dishes piled high and a bread basket that could choke an anatra, patrons are visibly content throughout her multi-nook arena. Ms. Bastianich deserves accolades for this well-oiled machine. Expect the likes of mozzarella in carrozza, deep-fried bread slices sandwiching mozzarella and served over pesto; grilled swordfish covered with sautéed onions and poised atop roasted sweet potatoes; and strudel di mele, an apple purée studded with raisins in bread-like pastry and cinnamon ice cream.
