- Remarks
- In an amusing and unexpected feat, humble Mr. Robata somehow thrives within the strip-clubby netherworld of touristy Times Square. Among discerning and discreet of-age adults, this is clearly an entertaining locale. And among foodies, it's a great stop for fusion Japanese. Inside, find two attractive dining areas: one that offers an inviting counter and an auxiliary room decked with well-sized tables. The food is tasty but less than authentic. Still, Mr. Robata entices with friendly, adept service. Oversized platters shine with powerful flavors, as in fried tuna tacos tossed with crunchy sesame seeds. Wagyu sliders are a generous crowd-pleaser, while the "never too late" maki with soft shell crab and robata -grilled mushrooms and eggplant are fun finds.
