- Remarks
- This lovingly recreated bistro is the first success story of the Meatpacking District, then a nascent neighborhood. Even now, it remains a trendy and popular place that is just as much fun during the day as evening, squeezing in a fashionable (and often famous) flock from breakfast through dinner. Inside, the timeless bistro décor (decorative mirrors, long zinc bar, walls lined with vintage Pastis ads) has that hip, informal charm so difficult to replicate; outside, the sidewalk seating was designed with Bellini-sipping and sunshine in mind. The menu is good and satisfying, focusing on neighborhood favorites like steak frites. The cocktail list, as expected, leans heavily on the anise-flavored aperitif from which the restaurant takes its name.
