- You can't shake a stick in Chelsea without hitting a tapas joint these days, but Tia Pol sets the standard. Although the bare bones space, a narrow dining room tucked behind a steel-patch door on Tenth Avenue, isn't much to marvel at—one whirl with Tia Pol's affordable Spanish wine list and delicious Basque small plates and you'll be rubbing elbows at the perpetually packed bar in no time. Kick the night off with a cheese and charcuterie platter loaded with silky hams and garlicky chorizo; then dig into dishes like a chewy, toasted baguette laced with pickled onions and tender veal tongue, cooked a la plancha; smoky, paprika-dusted slices of chorizo finished in a sherry reduction; and tender lamb skewers rubbed with fragrant Moorish spices.
