Best meal I recall in a long time. Instead of canapé we had a playful, alcoholic, palate-cleansing jelly and granita cocktail, a warm amuse bouche plus a pre-dessert, which proved refreshing, elegant and interesting. Sheer indulgence was a sublime starter of partridge boudin with langoustine and white truffle, followed by unctuously rich and tender oxtail. Chicken and duck served to my partner were inclined towards the exquisite too. Excellent rich Tuscan wine was enjoyed as were great cheeses of local and European origins. Utterly delightful and knowledgeable staff saved the quiet atmosphere from sterility on a quiet Tues evening (only possible downside). Chef turns ingredients into remarkably stylish dishes with taste at the forefront; textures and presentation take high priority too. This chef won a Michelin star when in Wales, so for that reason plus our experience perhaps he deserves another!(Dined 27 Oct 09)Though to me for a special treat cost was fine, I would warn that portions are not large which means 3 courses are easier to manage, so some may not consider it to be great VFM.

We were booked into this restaurant for my 40th birthday (a booking that had to be secured with a credit card), but they bumped us as they had overbooked. Unfortunately, it was too late for us to secure another booking elsewhere, and they offered nothing by way of compensation.
