- 16C property with ground floor coffee shop and heavily beamed upstairs restaurant. Well-presented, classic dishes delivered with a modern touch; ingredients are excellent and flavours, distinct and well-matched. Service is enthusiastic and friendly and the atmosphere, refreshingly relaxed.

Tristan is an up and coming young chef who undoubtedly deserves his new star. The dishes were sophisticated, but not complicated and the flavour combinations were sublime. The set lunch menu is a real bargain. My booking was at short notice and the reception on the telephone was as couteous and helpful as one would expect at a starred restaurant. I ate at Restaurant Tristan whilst passing through the area, but if circumstances permit, I would be delighted to dine there again.
I hesitate to make any adverse comment, but whilst the table service was courteous and helpful, at all times there was a lack of knowledge. In my opinion, this is not unique and is not a poor reflection upon the restaurant so much as a lack of opportunites for training in the UK. In this respect we lag far behind the French.
