This Thai treasure is not only a friendly escape from the cacophony of the LIRR, but a lovely culinary gem. Teeming with Asian diners, Chao Thai rises above its competition with earnest authenticity. The menu is manifold with classics, but most dishes hail from the North like moo pad phrik ging, juicy pork and crisp string beans stir-fried in a fragrant curry paste. It would be remiss to skip the daily specials (in Thai), so ask a waiter to explain. All tables are dotted with complex, richly scented sauces that blend sublimely with classics like massaman curry (chicken and potatoes in a pungent coconut gravy); and grilled eggplant salad with ground pork and shrimp. The "potato chip bags" with deep-fried salted fish are a thrilling countertop takeaway.
