We live not far away from this pub, but had not visited until our local paper gave a good report. We found the lunches good value, but puzzled as to why they had just been awarded a star.
Last weekend we called in again – but of course it is no longer really a pub. When one of the nose-in-the-air bar staff said he would not take an order for more than an hour & a half, we left the drinks he had served. I know we should have had the courage to complain, but the Butcombe beer really didn’t taste quite right (perhaps we were too sensitive, or perhaps it should be questioned if the beer pipes were properly flushed after cleaning). Altogether a sad experience; we won’t trouble them again.
