Idyllic location, perfect garden, tiny gem of a dining pub that looks a picture and is run with obvious talent and enthusiasm by two dedicated young owners. Stylish cooking and an excellent yet good value wine list. Our lunch featured melting, properly rare roast ribeye served cold with a salad of sweet, flavoursome roasted vegetables and (not quite enough) creamy horseradish - perfect for a sunny day, with a side of excellent hand cut chips. A peppery, creamy parfait of liver enriched with port wine, with char grilled breads and a garden salad, confirmed the ambition, as did wonderful green asparagus and an egg cooked as asked, lifted by wild garlic leaves. A Fattoria La Parrina 09 Sangiovese, juicy and delicious, at just £26. Quiet, friendly, civilised service, and more room is on the way. Plenty of parking space.
Very few. Yes, it's cramped, but that's also a strength. A touch less pepper in the parfait, a little stronger horseradish cream, maybe the bread basket could also offer a sourdough with more weight, but really, these are little personal requests, not criticisms - all the big things are good. Very good. Just one unisex loo, though, may not be to everyone's taste.
