Located in the lower level of the Margarita European Inn, Pensiero is one of those Evanston eateries that doesn't get overrun with Northwestern students. Rather an adult crowd dines here, appreciating the upscale setting with tall windows, rosy faux-finished walls, and perceived refined service. Pensiero isn't particularly inventive, but serves solid and flavorsome Italian fare that's generally crowd-pleasing. A mint-scented pea flan with Maryland crab salad tossing peppery arugula and carrot vinaigrette is a colorful way to begin your feast. Pastas are pretty straightforward, but meat and seafood delights like the grilled red snapper with potatoes, crispy prosciutto, and a roasted red pepper vinaigrette are memorable to say the least.
