Seeking a quiet space for a one-on-one dinner date? Don't come to Fushimi. This Asian-leaning restaurant should be saved for nights when you want to rev things up. It's sexy and dramatic, if a little bit big on all the decorative bells and whistles. Red, black, and gold dominate the design of the three dining spaces, while the sushi bar is set against a wall covered in shiny river stones. The food is equally flashy, but well-made and very fresh. Lemongrass hot and sour soup bobbing with shrimp and scallions; crunchy beef negimaki; and a crispy duck salad lean more toward Asia, while the cream cheesy-blue crab fajita is fusion all the way. Staten Islanders take their pick from a large, sometimes silly-sounding (the out-of-control roll?) sushi menu.
