The Purple Fig is quietly tucked through a deep-set arched doorway, beyond the slightly dark yet inviting bar offering premium spirits and sultry jazz. Leather booths and linen-topped tables beautify the rear of this rather romantic dining room, where walls are festooned with colorful photographs of their praiseworthy dishes. There are many gustatory pleasures to be had at The Purple Fig, perhaps starting with a grilled scallop laid beside poached apple slices and a warm pea velouté. Other dishes include a wild salmon fillet, cured and smoked pastrami-style, masterfully matched with Dijon and dill-pickled fruit as well as ginger-cucumber-wasabi crème fraîche; or a warm Valrhona chocolate cake crowned with a quenelle of pistachio ice cream.
