Chez Marie et Louise
Emmanuel Tresmontant-2009-12-01
Nowhere underlines the way in which this new generation of restaurants is showing how to be both generous and easy on the pocket better than Chez Marie et Louise, opened in June 2009 close to the Canal Saint-Martin by two former employees of La Fontaine Gaillon, Gérard Depardieu’s restaurant in the 2nd arrondissement.
It’s a place that I’m almost reluctant to reveal such is the quality of the food and the exceptional prices! Originally, a mouldy, dilapidated café, Christophe Letienne and Pierre Musy have turned it into a bright and welcoming restaurant, the old plates and Limoge porcelain inspiring confidence from the outset...
For starters, a light and creamy langoustine bisque with spices and whiskey is a gourmet delight that would be hard to better. The fresh Atlantic lobster ravioli is a generous and delicate dish worthy of a star in itself. For dessert, there’s a crunchy banana caramel with vanilla ice cream that’s in the same category: the proof: not a crumb will remain on your plate! As a bonus, there’s organic bread from Christophe Vasseur, the famous bakery located across the canal. All for ... 25€!
Given that not a single journalist has so much as put their nose around the door, I’m delighted to be able to announce, myself, that Chez Marie and Louise is the new nugget of eastern Paris.
