Remarks
Without any doubt the most prestigious opera house in the world. It was inaugurated in 1778, built on the old site of the church of Santa Maria alla Scala, to which it owes its name. It saw Verdi and Rossini as they made their grand debut, and reached its peak when the flamboyant Arturo Toscanini directed the orchestra! Its simple facade reveals absolutely nothing of the magnificent concert hall inside... which you will be able to see from a loggia when visiting the opera house museum.
