Remarks
The State Apartments were built in the second half of the 18C and notably include several ceremonial rooms and the Picture Gallery, all luxuriously decorated.
Much older is the Powder Tower Undercroft which rises from the remains of the Norman castle, the extensive excavations of which have unearthed part of the defences: a 13C arch and a relieving arch in the city wall, which enabled boatmen to enter the moats to deliver supplies to the postern gate.
The Church of the Most Holy Trinity (1814) and Castle Hall, an attractive 18C building, cannot be visited.
