This is the avenue «of the University». At the start, on either side, jostle luxury hotels, grand terraced cafés, restaurants, confectioners and classy shops. The Schliemann house, an attractive residence known as the «palace of Troy» (Iliou Melanthron) which the brilliant German archaeologist had built in 1879 by the architect Ernst Ziller (1837-1923) in the style of the Venetian Renaissance palaces, is home to the Numismatic Museum.
