Constitution Place, the centre of tourism and elegance in Athens, is dominated to the east by the old royal palace, built for Othon 1st of Bavaria, which became the parliament in 1935. Below the palace, in front of the monument to the unknown soldier, the sentinels of the Guard move as in a fascinating automatous ballet. On the northern side is the famous Hotel Great Britain, redeveloped in 1958: its original buildings (1843) housed the French Archaeology School from 1856 to 1874.
