The interior has recently regained its 19C splendour and contains a collection of the Pre-Raphaelite school, with works by Millais, Hunt, Rossetti and the famous work of Ford Madox Brown titled «Work», depicting the different classes of a developing industrialised society. Note the paintings by Stubbs, Turner and Constable. The industrial landscapes of the North were painted with great attention to detail by L.S.Lowry (1887-1976), whose workshop has been reconstructed on the ground floor.
