It was home to the Russian Ballets of Diaghilev, the powerful and yet pure voice of the tenor Caruso, Gustav Mahler directed his Second Symphony here, then Nijinsky danced L'après-midi d'un faune (1912) here... Then the Châtelet theatre became the home to operettas, Valses de Vienne and others like Belles de Cadix in which the singer Luis Mariano made the crowds come running. Some years ago it rediscovered its original musical vocation.
