Remarks
This unique collection used to be housed in the treasure rooms of Dresden chateau. At the start of the 18^th century, Augustus II converted them into a museum open to the public, officially called the «secret depot». But it was very quickly named Grünes Gewolbe due to the green colour of some elements of its architecture. After the Second World War, Albertinum housed these wonders which are now exhibited in four rooms of different colours. Green room: here you will see gold plate from the 16^th and 17^th centuries bearing the stamp of the masters of Nuremberg, Augsberg, Leipzig or Dresden. Blue room: here the amber and ivory objects can be admired. An ivory frigate (1620) and a large Königsberg amber sideboard will catch your attention. Red room: it is devoted to precious objets d'art bought by Augustus II from the artists in his court, and particularly the creations of the jeweller Johann Melchior Dinglinger. You will be fascinated by the succession of small gilded and enamelled figurines illustrating the «Court of Delhi on the anniversary of the Great Mongol», or by the famous negro with the emerald sample. Yellow room: jewels of queens, diamond ornaments, sapphires, rubies... lovers of precious stones will be overwhelmed here. Don't miss the window containing minuscule sculpted objects, the oldest of which, predating 1589, is a cherry stone containing 185 sculpted human heads.
