Marienkirche

Address
Alexanderplatz D - 10178 Berlin
Phone
030 242 44 67
Remarks
Its spire contrasts with the futuristic silhouette of the TV tower. The church was built of brick in about 1270 in a Brandenburg gothic style, of which it is one of the first examples. After the fire of 1380, it became a church hall with three naves. Before this, it housed the clothmakers' altar, the other unions preferring the Church of St. Nicholas. It has to be said that the area was one of ill repute and contained a brothel! Inside, see especially the pulpit (1703)
