Remarks The world's largest institution of African-American history deals with the life and culture of African Americans from slave-trade days to the present. Wright, a local doctor, started the museum in three row houses in 1965; the present glass-domed structure was completed in 1997. The moving, mutimedia exhibit "Of The People: The African-American Experience" interprets 600 years of American history from an Afrocentric perspective. An art gallery and temporary exhibits occupy other galleries.
