Improving the QuickInstall calculation of the available free memory on your PDA.

You have recently purchased the ViaMichelin Navigation software (the latest version of MapSonic) which you can use on your PDA (Palm OS or Pocket PC).

The QuickInstall tool that runs on your PC and enables you to transfer pre-defined maps onto your PDA calculates the available free memory on your PDA before you transfer your maps. The calculation of this remaining memory space can currently miscalculate on certain handheld devices: downloading this free patch will correct the error.

Installing the patch:

1. Ensure that all "MapStore", "POI Manager" and "QuickInstall" programmes are closed.
2. Copy the file "VM_Nav_2_5_1.zip" onto your hard disk.
3. Extract all the zipped files into the folder where "MapSonic.exe" was saved (by default, this is: "C:\Program Files\ViaMichelin\MapSonic \").
4. Click on "Replace All" when Winzip asks you whether you want to replace the existing files.
5. Ensure that your PDA is connected to your PC.
6. Double-click on "instMS.exe" (found in the folder where your MapSonic software was initially saved) and follow the on-screen instructions.

 
Your ViaMichelin navigation software is now updated and fully functional!

If you have Maps and Route Planning software from ViaMichelin installed on your PDA, you will be able to use it to find the location of any hotel or restaurant when using The MICHELIN® Guide on your PDA.
Simply click on the link --> to get there and your ViaMichelin Maps and Route Planning software will open automatically. You can centre your chosen hotel or restaurant in the middle of a map, or specify it as your departure or arrival point
To use this function, you must first install the relevant map onto your PDA.
Please note that this function is not available for all hotels and restaurants.

To install the 1.2.00 patch with the "to get there" function, compatible with Maps & Route Planning:

• Download the zip file containing the patch
• Extract the zipped files into a temporary folder (for example, C:\Temp)
• Ensure your PDA is placed properly in its synchronisation cradle
• Go to the temporary folder and launch "PatchInstaller.exe"
• Follow the instructions shown on the screen
  

With Palm OS®, synchronise your PDA.
Once installation is complete, you can delete the files saved in the temporary folder.

The version 1.3.2 of MapSonic brings two improvements to the MapSonic 1.3 version:
1- The night view featuring a darker background on the maps with no polygons (no materialization of the forests and rivers).
2- MapSonic will compute more quickly the optimum itinerary on voluminous maps (more than 256 MB) installed on a SD card. In this case it is necessary to have 16 MB of free memory available on the PDA (standard memory) instead of 8 MB.

Installation procedure:
1- Make certain that MapStore is closed
2- On your PC, open the folder where MapSonic was installed (by default : "C:\Program files\ViaMichelin\MapSonic\").
3- Open the "MapSonic_1.3.2_PalmOS.zip" file
4- Extract the zipped files into your MapSonic folder.
5- Double click "instMS.exe" (in the MapSonic installation folder)
6- Activate the synchronisation of the MapSonic update onto your Palm OS PDA.
Your MapSonic software is now updated and the new functions integrated.

Large screen display support for the Tungsten T3 also requires another patch to be installed (provided by PalmOne). For your convenience, this additional patch is included in the MapSonic patch download file. Once the Patch download has been installed, go to the Patch subfolder in your MapSonic folder and follow the same installation instructions for the "T3_DIA_Compatibility_prcs.zip" file.

This new function allows you to choose between two navigation mode screen display options: 2D and 3D. A screen display tool lets you adjust the 3D perspective to your own preferences.

This new screen display option ensures it is easier and visually more comfortable for you to use the navigation mode at night!

3- Screen settings and functions accessed at the touch of a finger
This new system of screen symbols now allows you to access main functions and options simply at the touch of a finger.With just a few taps of your finger, you can specify what information you wish to have displayed on your PDA screen when using the navigation mode (screen settings).

Owners of MapSonic 1.1: when downloading the MapSonic 1.3 patch, you will also benefit from the improvements made available in the MapSonic version 1.2, such as:

You are already owner of MapViewer 2.0 for Pocket PC, download MapViewer 2.02, the last update of your software.

Important note relative to the installation : If you use this version of MapViewer (MapViewer 2.02), please make sure to use it with at least version 1.12 of MapStore.exe (also included into this downloadable file). For that :
1- Open the folder where you initially installed MapViewer on your PC (for example c:\program files\SWI\MapViewer\")
2- Unzip the file "Mv2.02_ppc.zip"
3- Replace the 2 files (MapViewer.exe, Mapstore.exe) in this folder, by those that have been unzipped.
4- Suppress the previous MapViewer.exe inside your Pocket PC.
5- Open the file "instMV.exe" (in your folder); this application allows to synchronise MapViewer on your Pocket PC.

2- Unzip the file "Mv2.05.zip"
3- Replace the 2 files (MapViewer.prc, Mapstore.exe) in this folder, by those that have been unzipped.
4- Suppress the previous MapViewer.prc inside your Palm.
5- Reinstall the new MapViewer.prc, launch it once, and follow the instructions. For more ease of use on different platforms, MapViewer will provide you with a code that you need to report into MapStore, before you can cut a map (Inside MapViewer choose "?+Identifier" in order to read this code; Inside MapStore, choose Edit+Enter identifier to report this code).
