On the road

Škoda Roomster

The Škoda Roomster, a compact family people carrier, makes its commercial debut in Geneva.

The fourth model of the Škoda range is a compact people carrier and a direct descendent of the eponymous concept car presented two years ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show. More sedate than the latter, the Roomster nevertheless retains a certain playfulness, all credit to it, in an extremely competitive segment.

Hedging its bets, the Roomster borrows from the Fiat Doblo or Renault Kangoo type of passenger-carrying van, but also from the SUV and estate: one could call it a family off-road leisure vehicle. It will also be appreciated for its versatility, interior layout possibilities, new "Varioflex" rear seat adjustment system (with three independent seats), and storage space. The range of engines will include three petrol and three diesel units, coupled with a manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox (optional).

The Roomster is produced in the Kvasiny factory and will be launched in September 2006, after travelling the roads of the Tour de France. Lastly, like all the vehicles in the Škoda range, the Roomster should offer particularly good value for money.
